Dan Shornstein

  • Dan Shornstein lives in Saugerties, New York and has been living in the Hudson Valley since 1981. Over the past decade, Dan has immersed himself with both studio and plein air painting, inspired by the stunning landscapes of forests, streams and mountains of our region and beyond. Dan’s primary medium is oil but occasionally uses watercolor as well as pastels. His work has been displayed at local galleries and he has built up an impressive body of work in recent years.

    Since 2013, Dan Shornstein has immersed himself with both studio and plein air painting, inspired by the stunning landscapes of forests, streams and mountains of our region and beyond. Dan’s primary medium is oil but occasionally uses watercolor as well as pastels. He paints outdoors (Plein air) frequently and he has built up an impressive body of work in recent years.

    His work is influenced by Impressionism, but he is also experimenting with tonalism with a focus on more emotional and atmospheric compositions.

    Dan has studied with a variety of master artists including Richard Lisle, Dan Graziano, Todd Bonita, Kate McLoughlin, and Donald Elder.
